3 Signs You Need To Hire A Roof Contractor

Posted on

The humble roof, it protects you from all the harsh weather that life has to offer and has become one of the major staples of comfortable living. As such, it is in your best interest to make sure your roof is in good shape otherwise life in your home might end up becoming rather uncomfortable. However, signs that your roof are beginning to fail aren't so easy to sniff out unless you know what you're looking for. So, here are the things to look out for that can tell you that you should call a contractor.

Water Spots On Your Ceiling

The most damaging of failures your roof can have is that it will allow water to seep into your home, which can cause untold damage. One of the most obvious signs would be large patches of your ceiling that end up having warped or have pieces of the stucco fall off. While you might be tempted to crawl into your attic or crawlspace and try to patch the leak yourself, you should know that it's not as simple as that. Water rarely drips down in a straight line, so your best bet is always to call a contractor to come out to search for the leak themselves. This can save you tons of money in potential water damage.

Granules In The Gutters

Another good sign that your roof is in desperate need of repairs is that your gutters have abruptly stopped working very well. While it's always a good idea to check to make sure there isn't some other kind of obstruction, the presence of granules is a bad sign. This means your shingles are on their way to becoming stripped and as such will shortly begin to fail in their job to protect your home. This puts you at risk of bad weather, which can in turn cause havoc on your house. So before it becomes a problem, you should seek to have your roof reshingled.

Shingles Are Missing Or Warped

This is another sign that your roof really needs to be reshingled. As stated above, failing shingles can allow water to seep into your home. So, if you find shingles just laying in your yard or can notice any visible distortion in the otherwise uniform shape, that means they are starting to give out. Of course, you may be tempted to just have them spot replaced, but usually once one shingle starts to go the rest are sure to follow. This makes it best for you just to replace all of them at once and get it out of the way.

So, if you notice any of these problems you should act immediately in order to mitigate water damage which might occur in your home. To learn more about roofs, contact someone like Swisher Handyman Services.
